Marjorie James

Obituary of Marjorie Marie James

Marjorie James passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 27, 2019, at the age of 92.

She was born March 9, 1926, in the Manzanita district of Gridley, the youngest of eight children born to Antone and Anna Martin.

Marjorie was a graduate of Biggs High School. She spent her adult years as a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the S.P.R.S.I. Lodge. She enjoyed Bingo, bus trips to Reno in the days before local casinos, harvesting her summer garden, and the weekly crossword puzzles in the Appeal Democrat.

She was blessed with two wonderful, loving husbands: Michael Perry, from 1945 until his passing in 1979, and Phillip James, from 1983 until his passing in 2004.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; brothers Tony, Joe, Johnny and twins Clarence and Lawrence; sisters Dolores Azevedo and Helen Crater; sons-in-law Bill Ong and Ray Gannett; and infant daughters Carolyn Perry and Mary Ann Perry.

She is survived by her daughters Marjorie Ong and Evalyn Gannett; granddaughter Natasha; as well as a grand nephew, Frankie Terry, who with his sister Lisa she loved as if they were grandchildren. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, four godchildren and sister-in-law Alice Vierra.

The family wishes to acknowledge Adventist Health Hospice for their compassionate care, kindness and support. They made it possible to keep our mother and grandmother at home, and for that we will be forever grateful.

A graveside service in her honor will be held Mon., February 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gazebo at the Gridley Biggs Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, 530-846-2138.
