Obituary of George Ellis Burbank

George Ellis Burbank died suddenly January 16, 2019. He was known as Ellis by friends and family. Funeral service takes place Thursday, January 24, 2019, 2pm at LDS Liberty Ward on French Avenue in Gridley. Viewing will take place Wednesday, January 23, 2019, from 4-7pm at Gridley Block Funeral Chapel.

Ellis was born in Gridley June 28, 1928. He loved Gridley and didn't wander far during his lifetime. He started working for the Gridley Creamery when he was 17 years old and commuted to Willows to stay with the company when it moved. He retired from the dairy industry after 30 years and began farming rice and hay with his son George.

Ellis married his high school sweetheart, Lorene Fay Felkins, and they remained married until her death in 1997.

Ellis enjoyed water skiing and fishing the Feather River. He was an avid hunter of waterfowl and pheasants on friends' properties; "the best places," he recalled. Ellis and Lorene enjoyed dancing and traveled as far as Taylorsville, CA, to square dance.

Ellis married Widow Lois Lorene Howell in 2003. He is survived by wife Lois Burbank, daughter Rosse Burbank Flannery, son George Burbank and wife Regana, stepsons Dan and Ken Howell and their wives Tracy and Donna, five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and his sister. Ellis had three brothers and three sisters. Sister Verda Hardman lives in Utah.
