Lillian Nock

Obituary of Lillian Nock

Lillian Wickman Nock, 85, lifelong resident of Gridley, CA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019.  Lillian had been coping with dementia for several years and recently suffered a minor stroke.

Lillian graduated from Gridley High School in 1951 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from U.C. Berkeley, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.   She returned to Gridley to teach 7th grade at Sycamore school, where she announced her engagement to George Nock with flyers he air-dropped from his crop duster!  Lillian was a loving and engaged mother with her two daughters and their friends. Her kitchen table was often a place surrounded with animated discussions and heartfelt, honest advice.  The kitchen candy jars were also a big hit. Many might remember Lillian dressed in high-fashion, with an amazing array of shoes and hats.  She loved to decorate her home for the holidays and hers was the house to visit for Halloween. Lillian was also a football lover and on fall weekends she would cheer on her Cal Bears and the SF 49ers.  Lillian was an avid reader; you might see her kitchen light burning in the early morning hours while she finished a book she couldn’t put down.  Lillian loved her schnauzers and several felines over the years.  Neighborhood cats put out word of the free meals available in Lil’s backyard.

Lillian is survived by her two daughters, Ninan Fox and Melane Nock-Salgado, their husbands, Adam Fox and Jean-Pierre Salgado, and her four grandsons, Cameron & Keaton Fox, Debon & Savan Nock-Salgado; her brother, Fred Wickman, Jr. & sister-in-law Penny Wickman; sister-in-law Mary McGowan; nephew Randy, nieces Marcia, Diana, Louise, Melisse, & Erika.

Lillian will be laid to rest beside George in the Gridley Biggs Cemetery in a Private Service.  A celebration of her life will be held at the home of Debbie & Kurt Boeger, Saturday January 26th, at 12 noon, 1906 Oakley Lane, Wheatland, CA 95692.  Ninan and Melane wish to extend our deepest gratitude to Jane for her loving care and Rea & Robin for their support.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lillian’s name may be made to the Butte Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
