Obituary of Samuel Horace McKey

Samuel Horace McKey, 90, passed away Oct 16, 2018, at Valley West Acute Care, LLC, Williams, California.  Born on August 24, 1928, in Bagwell, Texas, to Horace Hoyle and Florence Ella (Anglen) McKey, Sam moved to Gridley, California in the mid-1940’s and remained in the Gridley/Biggs area until his recent move to Valley West in Williams.

Sam was a beloved husband to Marie Ann (Maurer), father, grandfather and great grandfather.  A long-time member of the Gridley United Methodist Church (formerly Evangelical United Brethren), he was a Korean War veteran, and an active member of the Gridley Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He retired from the Yuba County Public Works Department and spent many memorable times fishing and hunting with friends and family.

Sam is preceded in death by Marie Ann, his sons, Daryl and Dwayne, and brother-in-law Vernon Kraft.  He is survived by three sons, David, Richard (Lorri Bishop) and Dean McKey; three grandchildren, Devin, Jessica, and Justin McKey; great grandson, Jayden McKey, and the dear families of Vernon and Beverly (Maurer) Kraft and Frank and Shirley (Maurer) Stenzel, and dear friend, Coralie Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sam’s name may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (www.michaeljfox.org) or the Gideon’s International (www.gideons.org/donate).  The family wishes to thank the staff at Valley West for their care and support for Sam.

A memorial service will take place at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery on Monday, October 22, 2018, 1:00pm, officiated by the Rev. Frank Stenzel.
