Obituary of Lela Mae Scott
Celebrating the life, love, and spirit of Lela Mae Scott.
God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, nor sun without rain. But He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. Lela Mae Scott passed away at home on October 17, 2018, receiving her glorified body, and crowned the Mighty Woman of God and Queen of all Queens.
Lela was born October 7, 1939 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the youngest of ten children born to Samuel and Ionia (Edwards) Lacey. She graduated in 1957 from Oroville Union High School. Shortly after graduation, she married her king, Virgil Scott. They became the parents of four handsome sons (Orlando, Craig, Alexander, and Chad Scott), one beautiful daughter-Lisa Scott-Dora, and a lovely God-daughter (Angela Brown).
Lela lived and served the Lord most of her life: as a Deacon’s wife for over 33 years, as an usher, and as a member of the Mothers’ Board. She was blessed to have served alongside four Pastors: Elders E. W. Wynn, Robert Hills, Jr., Adrian Hills, Sr., and Edward Hall III. Lela’s helping hands extended into the Community. In the early 90s, Mother Scott and Missionary Brenda Harris were appointed jurisdictional “Ladies of Charity” by the Supervisor of Women, Mother Richardine Hunt. Humbly, Lela worked to supply blankets, food, clothing, and toiletries to fire victims in Butte County and the surrounding area. Professionally, Lela worked at Pacific Coast Producers as a machine operator for 32 years. There, she spoke by example, and was used by God to mentor others.
God called Lela home, and she will be sorely missed. Preceding her in death are her parents Samuel and Ionia, her beloved son, Orlando Scott, and six siblings: brothers Samuel, Calvin, Horace, and Earnest Lacey; and one sister, Pearline Laron. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Virgil; her brother Charles Lacey, and sisters LaVenta (“Toots”) Allen, Betty Pugh, and Gracie Lacey. Lela has fifteen grandchildren: Faith, Dante (Kiara), and Charity (Orlando & Michelle); Sean, Chantel, Miquel, and Malika (Craig & Anita); Alex (Brittany), Alyssa, and Chloe (Alexander & Lisa); Cole (Chad & Sawsan); Marques, Lela, Mar, and Jabari, Jr. (Lisa & Jabari Dora); six great grandchildren: Skye, Jayden, Kayleigh; Leo, Malia, and Zeela. Lela also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the entire Wynn Memorial Church of God in Christ church family.
