Obituary of Helen Evelin Crater
A combined Rosary Mass will be held on Friday August 24, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley for Helen Evelin Crater, 98 of Gridley. She passed away on Saturday August 18, 2018 at her residence in Gridley. She was born on February 20, 1920 on a ranch in the Manzanita area of Gridley where she was a lifelong resident. She enjoyed baking, gardening and was an avid San Francisco Giants fan. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, S.P.R.S.I., and the American club of Lisbon.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur “Shorty” Crater; daughter, Dorothy Rose; her parents Antone and Anna Martin; five brothers, Tony, Joe, John, Clarence, and Lawrence Martin; one sister, Dolores Azevedo; one grandson, William Rose; one nephew, Gary Martin; and two great-nieces, Lisa Terry and Casey Terry.
She is survived by two sons; Gene and Tommy Crater; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Crater; one sister, Margie Perry James; one granddaughter, Tammy Rose; three grandsons, Jacob, Michael and Nicholas Crater; one step-granddaughter, Kristen Alfrey; and a step-grandson, Brian Alfrey; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Rose; two step great-granddaughters, LeeAnn and Erin Alfrey; one step great-grandson Tyler Alfrey; nieces and nephews; Frances and Jim Allee, Lucille and Bill Townsend, Margie Ong, Evalyn Gannett, Frank Terry, John Terry, Ron and Gloria Azevedo, and Jimmy Martin.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Gridley Biggs Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
