Obituary of John Raymond Grant
His Legacy… John Raymond Grant was born on November 5, 1945 in Fairfield, CA to Raymond and Mary Ellen Grant. John passed away on August 6, 2018 at his much-loved home in Oroville, CA. While in the US Navy, John spent time on the USS Valley Forge and in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, John spent the next 35 years working proudly with the Western Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads as a foreman with the Maintenance of Way and as a dedicated union representative. After retirement, John’s passions included model trains, BBQ, cooking, family gatherings, and baseball. One of John’s favorite pastimes was watching the Giants with Suzette and his Beau Beau. While John could be quite ornery at times, his love and knowledge of the local area made him quite known in the community as a generous friend and historian.
His Family… John is survived by his loving companion Suzette Giese, his beloved dog Decker (Beau Beau), and his cat Sweetie, all of Oroville; his daughter Faith Ann and grandson Andrew of Oregon; his sisters Donna McMain of Oroville, Sharon Gowen of Oroville, and Deb Grant of Lancaster, CA; his brothers Roy Hall (Jeanne) of Forbestown and Tony Rubiolo (DeEtta) of Oroville; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and by his brothers Ed Grant and Richard Hall. John was especially close to nephew Steve, with whom he shared a love of cooking.
His Farewell Service… While no public services are planned, donations in John’s memory can be made to Northwest SPCA or The Hope Center, both in Oroville.
