Obituary of Jerry Mc Gee

Jerry McGee was born in Camden, Texas on December 2, 1930. Jerry and his older brother Roosevelt were raised by their mother and stepfather, Rosetta and Hamp Harris. Jerry also spent much time with his mom’s mother, his grandmother Zillie. Jerry had one sister, Zelleno Harris. She is the youngest and only daughter in the family. The family lived in Houston, TX, before moving to California. They settled for awhile in the Bay Area. Jerry spent most of his life in Oakland. He loved Oakland. Jerry graduated from McClymonds High School. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted by the US Army. He fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army has a Corporal. He then served 6 more years as an Army Reservist. Jerry was dedicated to his job at the VA hospital, where he provided medical care for 34 years to those to whom he shared an understanding with. For the last several years, Jerry had, moved in with his sister in Sacramento, because he needed assistance. He became very close to his brother in law, George and he and his sister got to become even greater friends. Jerry loved to walk, always had a smile on his face. He loved life and loved to have fun. Jerry, has a young man, had a mustang convertible that he also loved to drive. Jerry also loved to pray. His love for prayer deepened when he was fighting in the military. He would always say that it was because he had prayed the Lord’s Prayer that he made it out safely. He was very grateful to God for this. He told us how other soldiers would even ask him to pray for them. Jerry read the Bible all the time, while writing down scriptures. In the last few years he talked about God and prayed almost constantly. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He leaves behind his first cousins: Wayne Davison, Shirley White, Darrell, Larry and Julius Randolph, and Janice Wright. His second cousins: Donald Ledbetter and Kathy Ledbetter Bradley. His nieces and nephews: Dorene, Kent, Steven, LaVerne and Theresa. Also left behind to mourn, is his dear sister, Zelleno Shumpert along with various family and friends. Jerry will be truly missed. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Number 1 Church of God in Christ 3291 Burlington Ave. Oroville, California. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery 5646 Lincoln Blvd Oroville, California. Arrangements entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
