Obituary of Russell Brent Smith
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., with a reception following, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City for Russ ‘Mr. Tree’ Smith, 75, of Yuba City, California. He passed away on Saturday May 12, 2018 in Marysville.
Russ was born on February 18, 1943 in Red Bluff, California, one of four children born to James and Melba Smith. He was a fifth generation resident of Sutter County, having owned and operated the Cookie Tree with his wife Sue, in Yuba City. He loved tractors and attended many tractor shows with his brother, Keith. He was a graduate of Live Oak High School, class of 1960, and was very active in High School activities including water skiing and FFA. He was a great handy man with strong hands, and a strong work ethic. He was very devoted to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sue Smith of Yuba City; one son, Brent (Krista) Smith of Yuba City; one daughter Katherine (Russell) Robbins of Harker Heights, Texas, his siblings; Keith (Vera) Smith, of Rio Oso, CA, Pamela Brewer of Atwater, CA, James (Colleen) Smith of Lodi, CA; six grandchildren; Millie, Amos, Remington, Kailla, Ashly, Leann; one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Live Oak Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org/match.
