Naoma Ashcraft

Obituary of Naoma Jean Ashcraft

Naoma Jean Ashcraft was born on June 28, 1920 to Ola and Charles Rummage of Lathrop, Missouri. She had a brother Charles (Chuck) Rummage who preceded her in death. Naoma slipped the surly bonds of earth on April 30, 2018 to be with God and her husband Don.

In the early 1940’s she took a secretarial position with a flight school and charter flying service in Lawrence, Kansas which was owned and operated by Donald Ashcraft and his brother. On July 15, 1944 Naoma and Don were married in Kansas City, Kansas. Their marriage lasted for 62 years until Don’s death in December of 2009 in Oroville, California.

Don went on to become a commercial airline pilot and flew all over the world for Braniff Airlines. Naoma was able to accompany Don on many of his flights which allowed her to visit numerous places throughout the world.

Naoma was a fanatic about playing golf and they owned a house in Oroville which was right on the golf course in Kelly Ridge. Naoma continued to play golf up to early 2009 when Don became ill and she needed to devote time to caring for him.

Naoma will always be remembered for her outgoing personality, her generosity and her many witty remarks. Her favorite one was “Now that’s a pregnant idea.”

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the special attention the staff at the Pacifica Senior Living in Oroville provided to Naoma in the final years of her life. Many of the staff became very fond of Naoma as she did of them. Their special attention brought great joy to her in her final years.

In addition we would like to express our gratitude to Paradise Hospice for the attention they paid to Naoma over the past several months. The staff at Paradise Hospice are very caring individuals and their warmth and attention to Naoma made her last month’s pleasant.

No services are planned at this time for Naoma and her arrangements have been entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home in Oroville. If anyone is interested in making a contribution to recognize the life of Naoma we suggest the Northwest SPCA in Oroville  or Paradise Hospice.
