Obituary of Apolonia Nanez

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley, for Apolonia (Pola) Ogaz Náñez, 85, of Gridley, California.  She went to her eternal rest on January 27, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.  She joins her husband Indalecio Náñez and sons Francisco (Frank) and Mario Náñez who preceded her in death.

Pola was born in Villa Lopez, Chihuahua, Mexico.  She was a resident of Gridley for over 50 years.  Pola and her husband Indalecio dedicated themselves to raising a family of seven through much hard work and sacrifice. She was a proud charter member of Concilio Mexicano de Gridley.  “Polita or Doña Pola,” as she was known affectionately by many, was small in stature but huge in her positive outlook and influence on all of her family and friends.  Polita was an avid gardener, always tending to her roses and other plants. However, family and friends were her true love and joy.  She provided unconditional love to all of her family (including her grandchildren whom considered her a second mother), and others fortunate enough to meet her. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Pola is survived by her sister, Virginia Ogaz Nuñez, (Cuidad Juárez, Mexico); sons: Dr. Jose E. Náñez, Sr. (Arizona), Dale Náñez (Live Oak); daughters: Maria Arroyo (Gridley), Esther Márquez (Chico), Gracie Náñez (Cloverdale); twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.

Viewing will take place Thursday, February 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel with a rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley.

Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel is handling all the funeral arrangements.
