Obituary of Dorothy Winfrey

On January 27, 2018 at the age of 98, God chose to take Dorothy La Monte Winfrey to be at rest beside her husband until the resurrection. They were married for 67 years until Glen went to his rest in February 2006. To that union was born 2 boys David and Gary.

Dorothy was born February 15, 1919 to Hilda Walker La Monte and Jacob Austin La Monte in Litchfield, MN, moving to MO in 1929, and La Habra, CA in 1935.

Dorothy La Monte and Louis Glen Winfrey were married November 17, 1938 in La Habra, CA where he was in business with his brother-in-law Jesse Insco. They wanted to raise their boys with country life instead of city, so they moved to Biggs, CA in November 1948. They had a good life together raising cattle, rice and prunes for 35 years. They did a lot of traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one grandson, baby Brian of Grass Valley, one brother, Thomas Wellington La Monte of Huntington Beach, CA, two sisters; Hilda Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Insco of Gridley, CA, Edith Merle Buchanan of Bakersfield, CA, and her husband Louis Glen Winfrey of Biggs, CA.

Dorothy is survived by her 2 sons; David (Loretta) Winfrey of Auburn, CA, Gary (Patricia) Winfrey of Gridley, CA, 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday January 31, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. No funeral services will be held per her request. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
