Daniel Muravez

Obituary of Daniel L Muravez

Daniel Muravez was born July 2, 1973 in Paradise, CA. His family moved to Post Falls, ID for a short period and then returned to Paradise when Dan was in second grade. He went to Ponderosa Elementary School and enjoyed playing baseball and soccer as a child. His father Dennis was a coach for many of his teams and his family attended the games regularly. In junior high, he played basketball and enjoyed getting into trouble with his friends and cousins. Once Dan reached high school he began cross country running and developed his lifelong love of golf.

As a young adult, Dan had many adventures. He would frequently travel for extended periods to see the States. He spent a period of time working as a blackjack dealer in Reno. He took this time and was able to teach his sister, Erin, how to step up and play at the Craps table. He had many other travels with friends, often taking odd jobs along the way.

Dan eventually returned to the Paradise area. He enrolled at Butte College, finished his high school education and eventually moved on to attend Chico State, majoring in Computer Engineering. Dan didn't quite finish college, he fell in love with a woman and they married after a brief romance. During their marriage, both his wife and her teenage developmentally disabled daughter became a part of his family.

Dan became ill during his marriage, more accurately his illness was diagnosed. His marriage ended and he began to learn to function with his new life. There were many years in which Dan did the best he could with the hand he was dealt. He also became a very accomplished poker player with the online cards that were dealt. During this time his life was often in a state of flux. His living environment often changed. The extremely overwrought mental health facilities did their best to attend to his needs and the kindness of these people will be forever remembered. During these years, Dan spoke to his mother, Jeanie, daily and had a very close relationship with his family. Although these times were difficult, they will be remembered and cherished.

Dan was known for his kindness and often helped others who struggled with illness. His understanding and non-judgmental demeanor were a comfort to others during their similar trials. Never was an ill word spoken of him, by a cognizant person, during this time.

Daniel chose to take his life on January 19, 2018. One would hope he is never judged for this choice, as no one will ever quite understand his walk on this earth. His choice was premeditated and designed to cause the least amount of pain for those he left behind. He will be forever loved and missed by his family. The world and his companions who struggle with mental illness will sadly be lacking the grace of his eternal kindness and the joy of his wry sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in check form to Butte County Department of Behavioral Health, c/o Jeanie Muravez, PO Box 1057, Paradise, CA 95967 Arrangements are pending and entrusted to Oroville Funeral Home (530) 533-0323.
