James Gaines

Obituary of James Douglas Gaines

James Douglas Gaines passed from this life on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the age of 56.

Jim, the youngest child of Sam and Mary Jane (Shannon) Gaines was born in Santa Maria, California on December 21, 1960.  His family moved to Oroville, California in 1964 when Jim was 3 years old where he lived until his passing.  At an early age his father nicknamed him Jim Bob which stayed with him throughout his life.

Jim attended St. Thomas Catholic School and Las Plumas High School.  He also performed the duties of altar boy for several years at St. Thomas Catholic Church.  Jim worked in construction for 27 years before illness forced him into early retirement.

As a young boy, Jim participated in local youth baseball and as a young man he enjoyed an occasional duck hunt and many dirt bike escapades.  Being avid Dallas Cowboy fans Jim and his brother Mark are once again together cheering them on to victory.  Being the youngest brother of four Jim had a hard time keeping up with his older brothers and was the subject of many practical jokes.  The tales of those jokes were outrageously embellished every year while being remembered around the table during family dinners.

He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Mark Gaines.  He leaves behind his wife and best friend Gwendolyn Lynn Gaines, his son and his wife Kyle James and Victoria Gaines , two granddaughters Evangeline and Dahlia, five stepchildren Brandee, Melissa, Jason, Courtney and Calvin, numerous step grandchildren, two brothers and their wives Charley and Connie Gaines, Tim and Tonya Gaines and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to the Cancer Research Foundation.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd., Oroville, California. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
