Leana Doris Coggin

April 8, 1928 – April 10, 2026

Leana Doris Coggin, 98, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026. Born in Spokane, Washington, to William Morris Doran and Lila Nelly Buchanan, she was raised in Washington by her grandmother, Catie Dildine. Growing up during the Great Depression shaped her resilience and strong work ethic.

Leana married Burnice Lee Coggin on August 22, 1945, in San Diego County. Together they built a life grounded in family and perseverance, including raising their children during humble times while Burnice worked for Union Pacific Railroad.

She devoted much of her life to caring for others, fostering children—many from nearby Native American reservations—and was recognized by Plumas County in 1970 for her outstanding care. She later cared for seniors, became hospice-certified, and volunteered with AARP as a tax preparer in Oroville.

Leana attended Butte College and enjoyed real estate, raising Yorkshire Terriers, playing cards, gardening roses, and traveling. She and Burnice especially loved camping and trips along the West Coast and to Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnice; and her children, Jack Coggin and Susan Weaver.

She is survived by her grandson, Michael Coggin; granddaughter, Angela Rohr (and her husband Kevin); and great-granddaughters, Bailey Rohr and Hilary Coggin.

Services will be held April 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home, Oroville.
