Herbert Leon Lightle Obituary

Herb Lightle was born March 5, 1936 in Baxter, Missouri. His parents were John and Susie Lightle. They raised 16 children, of which Herb was the 5th youngest sibling. The Lightle family moved from Missouri to California when Herb was young. Herb attended school in Oroville. He then joined the Army Reserves in February of 1955 and served until honorably discharged in February of 1965. During this time Herb was sent overseas and spent time in Germany. He spent almost 2 years overseas.


Herb met Ruth Carnahan, whom would later become his wife, through family and friends. They were married on July 17, 1965. Herb enjoyed racing cars. He quite a few trophies and was honored by Ophir Speedway.


Herb and Ruth owned a business in Palermo called Herbie’s Hancock Station. He sold gas, oil, and tires. Herb and Ruth had 3 children; Tracy, Kelly, and Brian.


Herb worked for Western Pacific in Oroville, until it was bought by Union Pacific. He continued to work for Union Pacific until restructuring sent him to Kansas City, Missouri. He was there less than 6 months. He did not like the humidity so he quit and got on Southern Pacific in Roseville, which was later bought out by Union Pacific. Herb retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service. After his retirement he enjoyed tinkering around in his shop working on projects and spending time with friends and family. Herb liked working on cars and sitting on his swing in the backyard enjoying nature. He also liked taking a walk every evening and spending time with his grandchildren.


Herb was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and wife. Herb is survived by his 3 children; Tracy Snyder, Kelly Miles, and Brian Lightle, his 5 grandchildren; Shaila Lightle, Azreal Lightle, William Snyder, Alyssa Miles, and Ayden Lightle.


The family takes comfort in the knowledge that Herb has been reunited with his parents John and Susie, his wife Ruth, and all of his brothers and sister.


There will be food and refreshments provided at the Mormon Church on Monte Vista Avenue after the service. All family and friends are welcome.
