Ollie Hendon Obituary

Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother and Grandmother Olive "Ollie" Hendon. She passed away peacefully at age 100, On February 20th 2026, from injuries sustained in a fall. She was surrounded by people who loved her. She was born as Olive May Gordon to Robert and Florence Gordon, on July 17 1925 in Walthamstow, England. (Now a borough of London) The middle child of what became 9 kids. She was given the nickname "Bunny" as a child by her dad because of her constant bouncing around and boundless energy. She was called that name by her entire English family her whole life, and is still called Aunt Bunny by their kids and grandkids. She came from meager means, and being one of nine kids growing up during the depression she developed the belief that hard work will get you ahead, and she kept that belief her entire life. She got her first job at age 15 at the Ronson lighter factory in England, she followed her two older sisters into the British Army during World War Two at age 17. She moved to the U.S. with her one year old son in 1946 and became a U.S. citizen a year later. She took and held jobs when it was frowned on for women to work; she's been a seamstress, a waitress multiple times. She's owned and operated several small businesses' she was a trained and certified Schwinn bicycle mechanic, she was a real estate agent in both San Jose and Oroville, and the list goes on. She had numerous hobbies, knitting, sewing, crochet, needlepoint, and she loved to dance. She went dancing multiple times a week well into her nineties, and only stopped when her partner had to have hip replacement surgery, at about age 90 himself. At less than 5 foot tall she had the courage, strength and determination to tackle anything she set her mind to, and a favorite expression she picked up from her mom was, "dynamite comes in small packages". To her family she was the REAL "Energizer Bunny", she has been the glue that kept her family together all their lives. She truly was dynamite.

She is survived by her children: John Geller, Jean and Joe Sargent, Donna and Buddy Skaggs; her grandchildren: Sara Heldebrant, Wendi Skaggs, Lisa and Andy Goodman, Adam Skaggs, Faith and Joe Butler; her great grandchildren: Nick Siemens, Kristen Heldebrant, Tyler Callen, Kara Butler, Ryan Butler, Cody Goodman, Milo Goodman, and Nora Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Olive "Ollie" leaves behind a lasting legacy of strength, unconditional love, and an unbreakable bond of family. Her determination, courage, and fierce devotion will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.

A memorial service will be held on March 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Orland Сa.
