John Patrick Benedict, 73, of Oroville went to be with the Lord on April 28th, 2025. The Celebration of Life will be held Thursday May 15th, 11:00am at St Thomas the Apostle Church in Oroville, with graveside service and reception to follow. The reception will be held at 100 Ledger Ln, Oroville, Ca.

John was born February 8th, 1952 in Marysville, Ca to Loren and Catherine Benedict. John graduated from Gridley High School in 1970, where he then attended Butte College for two years and was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. John then transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he married the love of his life Doreen Shelton on September 16th, 1973. John also played on the golf team before graduating in 1974.

John’s priorities in life were first and foremost his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family and friends, and his lifelong dedication to working in the construction industry. John’s best days were spent with his family and friends golfing and at their cabin in Graeagle.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years Doreen, Sons: Patrick (Heather), Kelly (Libbie), Kevin (Lisa), and his only “girl” Ashley Johnson (Jimmy).  Grandchildren: Loren, Triston, Brycen, Christian, Grace, Chance, Madison, Mayci, Myli, Marli, Raegan, Harper, and on Great Grandchild, Broc. John was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Catherine Benedict.
