Obituary of Chester S Johnson

A memorial service will be held on Friday May 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Gridley Biggs Cemetery for Chester S. Johnson, 75 of Gridley, CA. He passed away on Saturday April 22, 2017 in Chico, CA. He was born on November 17, 1941 in Laurel, MS, one of six children born to Vernon and Bratis Johnson.

Chester was a longtime resident of Gridley, having worked for many area farmers. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed stateside. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara Johnson, one brother and one sister.

He is survived by four sons; Melvyn Redrup of Nottingham, England, Steve Joyce of Gridley, CA, Alan Joyce of Redding, CA, Rick (Marlene) Johnson of Chico, CA, one daughter Bonita Redmond of Yuba City, CA, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother George Johnson of Texarcana, AR, two sisters; Undean Colter of Gridley, CA, and Joyce Lanier of Myrtle Creek, OR.
