Obituary of James Rodney Townsend

His Legacy… James Rodney Townsend "Jim The Barber" was born on August 7, 1941 in Oroville to Lavon and James Townsend. Jim died on April 23, 2017, in his Oroville home surrounded by his family. For 54 years he was the loving husband of Irene Townsend. As a young man he attended barber college in Sacramento and returned home to start his career. He owned and operated The State Barber Shop on Meyers Street for over 50 years. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years. At 19 he met the love of his life and they married at 22 and had two children. Jim will be remembered for his love of family and his dedication to his customers. He was happiest sharing conversation and laughter with family and friends. Those who loved him will reminisce over the stories, jokes and memories he’d share as well as the warming hospitality he gave whenever he was in town. His Family… Jim is survived by his wife Irene Townsend, his brother Rodger Townsend, his son James T. Townsend (Michele), daughter Cindy Franchi (Tony), grandson James A. Townsend of Corvalis, OR; grandson Taner J. Duble and granddaughter Olivia R. Townsend. He was preceded in death by his parents James & Lavon Townsend. His Farewell Service… A Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ramsey Funeral Home, 1175 Robinson St. Oroville, CA. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd. Oroville, CA. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
