Obituary of Vonda Estelle Lamka

Vonda Estelle Lamka, 90, of Oroville passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 peacefully at her home surrounded by her daughters. Born Vonda Estelle Zimmerman on May 13, 1926 in Boonville, Missouri, her family relocated to Bidwell Bar, California in the late 1930s. A 1944 graduate of Oroville High School, Vonda went on to graduate from Chico State College in 1958 at which time she obtained her teaching credential. Vonda taught for more than 26 years with the Thermalito School District and during her ten-year with Thermalito, Vonda earned her Lifetime Teaching and Reading Specialist credentials before retiring from teaching in 1986. Upon retirement Vonda enjoyed spending time with her family and donating time and support to Concerned Citizens for Education and the Palermo Grange. In her passing Vonda has been reunited with Benjamin Franklin Zimmerman (father), Goldia Fleet Brown (mother) and James Ronald (Ronnie/Zeke) Zimmerman (brother). She is survived by her sister Sarah Ann (Earl) Lehman; daughters, Leslie Lynne Lamka, Allison Denise Privette and Donna Marie Thompson. Grandchildren Kevin Eugene (Katie) Privette, Myles Ashley (Kristina) Thompson, Cynthia Ann Privette, Shayne Oliver Lamka and Johnny Lee Thompson. Great-grandchildren Harper and Brooklyn Thompson, Avery Privette, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Family and friends are invited to join Vonda’s daughters for a celebration of her life on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Palermo Grange, 7600 Irwin Avenue, Palermo, CA beginning at 4:00 pm. A private family gathering will take Vonda to her final resting place at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Boulevard, Oroville, CA. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Vonda’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org (916) 453-2000) or Palermo Grange (7600 Irwin Avenue, Palermo, CA 95968 (530) 533-9211).
