Obituary of Mel E McLaughlin

A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 11:00 AM at the McLaughlin Gymnasium at Biggs High School, for Mel McLaughlin, 85, of Biggs, California. Mel passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, in Chico, California. He was born April 3, 1931, in Torrington, Wyoming. Mel was 1 of 5 children born to Harry and Esther McLaughlin. Mel was a longtime resident of Biggs having taught school for 43 years, he enjoyed golfing and was very active in community events. He was a member of the Biggs Lions Club, Biggs United Methodist Church, and S.I.R.S. (Sons In Retirement) in Chico. Mel was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ann McLaughlin of Biggs, California, his children, Jeanine Norton (Tom) of Sutter, CA, Russ McLaughlin of Shoreline, WA, three grandchildren; Bryan Norton of Tokyo, Japan, Rachel Norton of Sacramento, CA, and Jason McLaughlin of Biggs, CA. Pastor Darla Hadrick of the Biggs United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Inurnment will be in the Gridley Biggs Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley Block-Funeral Chapel. Family suggests contributions be made to the Biggs Booster Club or Biggs United Methodist Church in Memory of Mel.
